Crochet Obsession Update.

So, if you've read my blog before, you will know that I just taught myself how to crochet. I think I'm addicted! I love it!!! I keep finding cool yarns and thinking of what I can crochet...
Anyways, here are a few recent projects:

A crocheted collar of sorts. I found this great hand-spun yarn at the Corn Festival (representin' Wilmington, Ohio) and I knew I had to have it. I didn;t need a pattern for this, Its basically a short scarf with buttons haha.

Amigurumi Birdie!
This is one of my Woodland critters for my Halloween costume. I'm ALMOST done with the squirrel.

Nightmares and mutilated babies.

I really can't believe I forgot to post these!!!!
These are both projects from "The Big Ass Book of Crafts" by Mark Montano. The first one is a nightlight idea. It's made out of painted wooden clothespins, 2 cheap frames from the dollar store, an LED nightlight, and an extension cord. It costs under $5 to make!!!! I should do a tutorial for it someday but for now, here are basic instructions... (even though I know step by step instrucions will be more helpful)
1) Disassemble the clothespins and lay them side to side. Glue them together so that they will make the sides of a box.. meaning the length of each clothespin panel will be the length of one side of a picture frame.
2) One of the frames will have a printed out image that you like under the glass. I chose Reagan from The Exorcist, simply put because I enjoy inspiring nightmares :) The other frame will just have the cardboard back left in it, but cut a hole in it to put the nightlight through.
3) Paint your clothespins and frame, then assemble. Attach the extension cord to the nightlight, plug in, and there you have it! A fancy pants homemade nightlight!!!!

Here it is lit up at night!

The next project is a baby head paperweight. Basically all you do is pop off a baby doll's head and fill it with Plaster of Paris. TBABOC says to paint it or cover it with gold leaf, but I think its cute they way it is.

Thanks, Dennis the Menace!!

Dennis the Menace (with Walter Matthau) is undoubtedly one of my absolute favorite movies from my childhood. So, when I was watching my DTM VHS a few months ago and the VCR began to eat the tape, I panicked and took apart the VCR with a screw driver. Granted, the VCR was from 1994, so no big deal, but I couldn't resist holding onto the spare parts. Until today, they had been sitting in my drawer, waiting to be used. Today, I was feeling especially crafty, so I decided to make a necklace out of a bulb from the VCR.

Turned out pretty BA, no?

Second degree hot glue burns suck.

I feel so bad that I've put this off for so long... I've been doing some hardcore crafting lately!!!
Today's venture was making my Mom and autumn wreath with the assistance of my best friend Thea.
Yesterday, Mom picked out some artificial flowers, leaves, berries, and a grapevine wreath that she liked at Joanne Fabric (a.k.a. the greatest store ever).
Thea assisted me by cutting the flowers off of them stem, then I hot glued them onto the wreath. Once all of the flowers and leaves were glued on, we decided that the wreath still needed something special.. so we went out and bought some gold ribbon and wove it through the wreath.

Seriously people, making a wreath is SO easy. Wreaths are the perfect home accessory to make your front door look extra special for a holiday or for the changing of the seasons. Also, they make great gifts and usually cost under $10 to make (unless you're feeling super zealous). As you can see, our wreath makes our front door look BA.

Also, note my Dad's latest undertaking.. he painted the door green and added a peephole last week. Fancy, no?
Now, I feel complelled to warn of the dangers of hot glue guns. High temp glue guns were created by Satan himself.
Photobucket
This is my thumb after making the wreath. The glue accidentaly dripped down onto it.... note the white blister on my cuticle and the red, blistered line where the glue landed. Honestly, from now on I will only use low temp. Oh well, at least I learned from my mistake! Be careful!!!
